Posh Kids Etc is a Posh children's Consignment shop in the Chicago Suburbs.  We are the hidden Gem in Downers Grove, IL. 
As a mom who worked in the Corporate World for years always had a passion for Children's clothing.  The economy made life difficult for many families as lots of parents lost there jobs.  I was one who was laid off during the wave of millions losing there jobs.  At the time I was really ok with it as I had a teaching degree and thought no problem, I will just go back to teaching.  Well, even the schools were having a hard  time and were letting teachers go.  Wow, that was a shock as I planned my life out thinking I was choosing a degree that would always provide for my family.  Thank God, my husband still had his job and I could stay home for a while we just needed to watch our pennies.  My dream was to stay home with the kids.  But, how was this going to happen being we had lived on 2 incomes for years.  I started by not taking the shopping sprees I was accustomed too. For the first time in my life I was able to join the mommy groups and just hang out with my children.  As, I started to talk to other stay at home mom's I asked how do you do it?  They were all willing to share there saving plans.  Coupons, Shop resale, Buy only what you need.
Ok that sounds easy.  Then I started to research.  I loved spending time with my kids but can't afford to pay $20.00 everyday to get into some of the activities in the area.  This started a passion in me.  What have my kids not done that is free in the area.  Wow, I found a tone of fun stuff to do for free.  We packed our lunches and went on our way.  Then I still wanted to do some of these little things that did cost money so I started to sale my kids clothes ebay, resale etc.  This launched my Ebay addiction.  I love kids clothes, I love to dress my kids in high end designer labels, How will this work?  I bought resale of my favorite brands, then when they grew out of the clothes I sold them.  This caught on with my friends they started to ask me sale for them.  Soon I had a home base business.  I loved it, Home with my kids and making some money on the side.  It just kept growing by word of mouth.  I was overwhelmed with excitement.  I looked for the past 2-3 years thinking i need to move this business to a storefront.  My little guy was only 2 so I would start looking when turned 3 to find out what it will take to open a resale shop and follow my dreams.  He started Kindergaden this past year, timing could have not been more perfect.  The cute little space we found for our resale shop was in Downers Grove, IL.  Consignment had been catching on and the shops were popping up everywhere.  I was getting nervous that one would pop up in the town I wanted to work out of.  As, I said I had been working on this for years lookign searching etc.  Rent for the shop how is this going to be possible in such a great town and on Main street. Well God answered my prayers, I found the cutest little place with the Main Street address but it is a little hidden but , I can make this work.  With God and my family behind me, I thought I made it work out of my house and people found me very easy so I should be able to make this little shop work.  So I did it Feb. 11 2012 opened Posh Kids ETC.  It is a little hidden Consignment resale shop in the heart of Downers Grove, IL which is the suburbs of Chicago.  I love my little shop and yes I know location is important but, as a resale shop being able to afford a main street location for consignment is my next dream I hope to follow.  My home base customers have followed me and Downers Grove residents have welcomed me with open arms.  I LOVE IT! I have been there 4 months each month brings more customers and new friends.  Thank you to everyone who has referred my shop to there friends and family.   The schools who have promoted my business.  The restraunts who put my cards out and told there customers about the little hidden gem.  The pizza shops that stapled my business flier to every pizza box that went out on Friday and Sat night.  I am grateful and can't believe that this dream is coming true.  Posh Kids ETC the Hidden Gem in Downers Grove, IL which is a suburb of Chicago loves you all for supporting me.

We are so pleased to have worked with Emerson today.  She was a joy and a cutie.  Posh Kids Etc children's consignment shop did a cutie contest and Emerson sent in a beautiful picture and she was so good today through the heat, changing outfits and what a great listener she is with such a sweet attitude.

We had so much fun taking pictures of Emerson today and hope to do it again soon.  Thank you Erin and Emerson for doing such a wonderful job.

Posh Kids Etc Consignment Boutique Downer Grove, IL

Posh Kids is flowing with lots of new it's that we have consigned this week. I have been so busy with the help of some friends we are getting the clothes, maternity, toys and baby items out as fast as we can.  I just put out a Little Tikes Sound Kitchen.. It is so cute.. The stove top sizzles, it has a microwave that bings, a kitchen sink, phone, coffee pot, dishwasher and fridge.  Where were these toys when I was little.. lol  I would have been cooking up some great meals if I had one of these..
I also just put out a Step 2 Workshop.. Talk about fun..It has a drill, saw, wood plane, screws, pretend wood pieces and even blue prints.. What will they come up with next.
Our Children's consignment shop is now teamed up with a local t-shirt artist that makes us bling shirts.  Check out my facebook page and see all the rage.. These are new and can be made in any size from children's to adults. 
The Friendship bracelets are all the rage here at Posh Kids Etc.  Thanks to some little girls who came in and purchase 1 each and now it has become a crazy thing.. I have several kids come in everyday to purchase the friendship bracelet.  I just got in a new style hoping the girls and boys will love them too.  The kids are all in 5 or 6th grade and some of them have them going up there arms and around there ankles.  I really like that we have these fun bracelets.

Posh Kids Etc is a great way to save money.  We sale gently used and new children's clothing and maternity at a fraction of the cost.  I love all my new customers.  Downers Grove, IL has been such a great place to open my upscale children's clothing boutique.
I have had so much fun meeting everyone and looking through all these adorable outfits.. I have been busy coming up with new and fun things to do in the store.  The only thing is I am learning to keep it quite for a while and notify when the time is right.
I believe in working together.  There is so much fun in consignment shops and shopping them all is  what most of my customers find to be a fun day.  It is so sad that some people have to ruin it for them by not being so kinde to others.  I believe you can shop where you want and when you want.  No matter if you have been to my store 50 times and you found some more items at another resale shop, that is wonderful and fun all at the same time. I own a resale shop and still love to shop resale.  I don't always have my kids sizes so shopping for them at other shops is so much fun.

Always remember what comes around goes around.  Sometimes life throws you a curve and you have to figure out how to work through it.. Right now I am working through it and loving life.

Posh Kids Etc. has been very busy adding new items daily to our Children's consignment Shop. 
We had a very sad day today as we lost someone very close and dear to our family. So if you came in today and saw us upset this was a very ruff day. 
My daughter who helps me in the store will be traveling to Texas next week to say her good byes to her Uncle John.  May God welcome him with open arms.  He was a truely wonderful and thoughtful man.
As this has been a very long day with the upsetting new and the boys playing baseball all day. I am ending short for the night.  Thank you to all my wonderful customers who consign with us and shop with Posh Kids we are truely blessed.

This day was wonderful.  I added new look to the store which I love.. We palced a cute little place to show off our baby blankets, hair bows and much more. Our consignment shop is doing wonderful and love meeting new people everyday.  Consigning has gotten so much easier now that my consigned children's clothing and maternity can be seen by the customer online.  I love it.  I am sure my customers love it a lot more.  We had traffic all day new and old customer's walking through checking out our little consignment shop.  So many nice people told me how cute my little children's store was today.  It makes me feel so good to hear people enjoy the shop. A great day for Posh Kids Etc Consignment Shop Downers Grove, IL

I really feel that nothing is accomplished by being unkind to others.  My store has now been open for 2 months and I have been so blessed with so many new customers.  God sent a message today through an old friend who has also joined us in promoting my store.  He showed me to never give up and he is watching over me.  I ve learned that I need to lean on him more as he will always bring me through what ever evils I am batting out there in the world. 
On that note we had a wonderful day more new customers, more new business' helping me out to promote.  I love my life..

What do you do when another business copies everything you are doing?

So anyone out there have a business and one similiars to yours copies everthing you are doing.  You have a contest they do the same exact contest. It is nice that they think my ideas are so great that they have to copy them all .  Why can't they come up with there own ideas?  Why send people to my store to report back everything I am doing?  Why send your husband to stalk outside my door?  Why place calls to my business? Hello caller ID tells me you are calling.  Anyone have any similiar situations?  Why is it when a friend of mine shops in your store you attack them?  I do not work this way.  I feel there is plenty for everyone.  You do not have to talk bad about others.  Don't you know when you do this it only makes you look bad.    Move on. Come up with your own ideas.  I hope you see this blog. You seem to know everything I am doing.
I feel honored you think my ideas are so great that as soon as I do something you post right afterwards that you are doing the same exact thing.  I hope it works for you.  I don't follow you on facebook or anywhere else. I do not have to because I have people that tell me what you are doing. I really not interested. I love being creative and coming up with my own ideas.  Good luck with whatever you are doing.

Photo contest

Our photo contest ended at mid night last night.  Talk about some cute kids.  This is going to be so hard to pick just one winner.  I am so glad I am not judging.. I have some of the local photographers taking a look at the entries.. There are so many with great stories behind the picture which makes the picture even more beautiful.  I can't wait to see the winner... Will post them once they are chosen. 

When shopping resale does brand matter with children's clothing?

Today was an incredible day.  Lot's of customers and meeting some great new people.
As I was sitting here taking a little breather, the store had calmed down a little bit a woman walks in and I greeted her as I alway do.  Asked if she needed help let her know I was here if she needed anything.  Several more people came in and she walks up to my counter and says really harshly your prices are way to high and then compaired me to another consignment shop in the area and said I can't believe you want 3.99 for a junkie t-shirt from the gap and 14.99 for a knit dress. 
So let me explain, The junkie t-shirt you are referring to is from the Gap and retails for $24.00 and is still on there website.  It is a worn look as that is the way it is purchased.  The knit dress is from Hanna  Andersson and it is new and from last summer collection and retails for $38.00. 
She then proceeded to tell me she could go to Old Navy and get a knit dress new for$15.00. Correct you could but it does not compair to Hanna Andersson. 
So just to explain, I own a high end children's consignment shop and only carry high end brands which in the normal world you would pay 30-100 for each dress new.  I price them by how old the item is, condition (I only take an item if it is in mint condition), and wear. 
This customer got really snippy with me when I asked her to show me what she is talking about. I said I always welcome input.  I said certain brands sell for more and they are priced as such.  She said she did not care what brand it is and my prices are way more very rude and loud.  I was really interested in why she thought she could do better somewhere else but she would not even chat with me about it just was really rude and left. 
What do you guys think? Does Brand matter?  I think so... A Hanna Dress will outlast a dress purchased from some of the lower brands as far as wash and wear.

As my store is getting more and more customers it has been a long road. We have been open for 6 weeks.  Everyday is a new experience.  I meet wonderful and fun new people everyday.  I am in a hard location as I do have a Main street Address you have to enter through the back which I call the alley.  Don't forget to stop in and follow us on facebook.  We are giving fun prizes away monthly.

A father's love..

It is so great to see a father love his daughter's so much!
Today in my store one of my customer's came in with her two daughters and husband.  The girls are so cute and there mom has them dressed so cute! As she is shopping the girls are hanging on dad and he is just beaming. I said to him "Could your girls be any cutier?"  He replied" I don't think so!" With a huge smile on his face.  I love my little store in the alley by the library.  One of the perks having my little shop seeing how much a mom and dad loves there children! Makes me smile..

Children's clothing is so much fun!!! Why is there always more girls stuff than boys?  My wall with all the girls items is packed full my poor boys wall is lacking a little bit.  I have been getting customers from all over so my new fun has been posting pictures of new items for them and doing skype to show them the store.  I did not realize how much fun you can have with a customer over skype.  Today I was using facebook and my 2.00 baby doll to show a customer in Florida, some new baby items we just got.  I will add a couple of those pictures on here too. Too funny this little doll is the same size as most newborns so you can see how the clothes fit.
What are some of your favorite brands for children?  For boys Mini Boden is on the top of my list.  For girls I love so many of the items that these designers make I really could not just pick one.  Matilda Jane has become one of my favorites in the last year.  I would love to know your options.

Downtown Downers Grove is having the annual wedding walk.  So excited to be apart of this fun on April 1st.  There will be 150 brides to be attending and checking out our stores.  Can't wait to meet them all.. This should be a fun day.  Will post pictures next week...

Hope everyone had a wonderful day.  Posh Kids just had to add more racks to accomidate all our inventory.  This has been such a wonderful 6 weeks of business and gets better everyday.  Maternity is finally out for veiwing and we finally got our storage space.. Thank goodness we have been waiting for this space to hold all our extra's.

Our models for Posh Kids Etc had a wonderful shoot and hopefully will get the pictures out this weekend for veiwing.  They are beautiful pictures..

 neemies is a local stay at home mom who has put her love for sewing into designing unique and beautiful children's clothing.
 Then there is me who owns Posh Kids etc.  My love for dressing my children on a budget.  My entire life I have always wanted to do something with children and clothing.  After receiving my teaching degree, I soon realized it was very hard to raise my daughter on my own with a starting salary of a teachers wages.  I moved into the business world and was not happy at all.  Met the man of my dreams and everything started to fall into place. We have 1 daughter and 2 boys and one grandson.  Life is wonderful! About 8 years ago when the economy started to take a dive I was laid off from my job in the business world.  I decided I wanted to figure out how I could stay at home with my kids.  My daughter was entering High School and dressing was all about labels.  So I started the wonderful world of ebay.  I would list her clothes that she was tired of and in return give her the money to repurchase new items. Wow, this was kinda neat!  My daughter then started bringing me stuff all the time can you please sale this and give me the money.  I would sometimes make more than what I purchased the item for and she was thrilled.  I soon started doing what I loved best shopping and then listing it on Ebay.  This caught on my friends started asking me to sale for them and giving me a percent of the sale price.  I had it great, staying home with my kids and making money at the same time.  Then the economy kept just getting worse and resale started booming.  So I have now opened a little Consignment Boutique called Posh Kids Etc..  A dream come true! I have been opened 6 weeks and have been doing wonderful.  I hope it continues and I am so thankful for being able to do something I love.  So I have to say never give up following your dreams.  There has been ruff roads along the way but I have a hard time remembering them as the wonderful life I am living now is a dream come true.  I hope if anyone reads this this will inspire you to never give up and live your dreams.  Make sure you check out my store if you are in the area or even check out our website or facebook page.  Living one day at a time!  Recycle and save!  This had to be my thinking when I went from having a posh job to not having a job at all.  Recyle your children's clothes, toys, shoes, baby gear and save so much along the way!

Meet our Posh Kids Models

This is Delaney who is adorable, sweet with a fun and spunky personality. She is modeling our 7-8 clothing and doing a great job. 

Aili modeling our wings & tutu's and our size 4's.  She is so much fun and loved by everyone that meets her.  Gymnastics and dance keep her busy but always makes time to model for Posh Kids. 

Little Ms. Evie at only a month old is making her mark by modeling our itty bitty wings, headband and ruffle bottoms.  What a beauty!!!

Elle showing off a Matilda Jane outfit. No direction needed here she is a natural.  Modeling our size 6-7 this 6 year old has it all.  When I say no direction needed, I mean it, she poses and every picture comes out beautiful.

This is Ethan who has his very own style. Modeling our size 7-8 boys he holds a special place in my heart.  He is my baby who makes me smile everyday. 

Bentlee, what a cutie at 18 Months he is working hard showing how cute he is in our 18-24 Month Posh Kids Clothing.  He is another one that has me wrapped.  This is my oldest childs son and my first grandbaby.  He is so sweet and can get YaYa to do anything with those big blue eyes..

Anthony at age 6 is modeling our 5-6.  So handsome and really likes to dress in style.  Here he is sporting one of our Mini Boden tops and True Religion Jeans..

Posh Kids ETC is official opened.  We opened on Saturday Feb. 11th with a wonderful crowd and great day.  Closed on Sunday back open today we have had some wonderful customers and great consigners.   Lots of Matilda Jane, Naartjie, Gap, Mini Boden and so much more.  A Orbit Stroller arrived what a beautiful stroller.  It retails for 1600.00 has everything you need what a steal for $800.00 it is in perfect condition.. We are located in Downers Grove, IL Right next to the Downers Grove Library 5116B Main Street.  It is a little tricky to find us but everyone on Main can point you to our little store in the alley..
